Led by Nathan Philips (350MA) and volunteers from Mothers Out Front, HEET, and other Gas Leaks Allies, a team has been accessing funding sources (including this GoFundMe page started by Nathan that has raised more than $13,000) and using in-kind donations (such as 500 induction cooktops from Ikea) in order to help families in Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover. Working with the Merrimack Valley Project and other local agencies, Nathan, Ania Camargo, and others will have delivered nearly 700 induction cooktops to families who are back in their homes with electricity but no gas, so they can’t cook hot meals. In addition to the cooktops, the team is now buying and distributing pots that work with induction. They have created fliers in both English and Spanish explaining how the induction cooktop works, noting safe alternatives to gas, and sharing ways to get discounts on fuel rates and weatherize homes to save on electric bills. BCEC is proud to count these dedicated volunteers who are really making a difference for our neighbors to the north among our coalition members; please help out on the GoFundMe page if you can.
